In September 2009, Chasetown Specialist Sports College introduced a new structure known as Vertical Tutoring.

What is Vertical Tutoring?

Vertical Tutoring is not a new concept. Many highly successful schools around the country have adopted this system. Currently, our school is organised horizontally, in year groups, and students are placed in tutor groups with up to 30 students of the same age. Vertical Tutoring involves a house-based structure with smaller tutor groups of students of mixed ages.

How does this work in practice?

The school was divided into four ‘teams’. All students and staff have been assigned to a house for the duration of the time that they spend in this school. Each house has 11 coaching groups of approximately 20 students led by a coach. Each coaching group will have some students from every age-group in the school from Year 7 to Year 13. There will be clusters of students (2-4) from each age-group, all working together in coaching period. The students will remain in the same coaching group for their whole school career.

The Teams are:- Red, Blue, Green and Orange
