National School Sports Week
National School Sports Week is a week long sporting celebration for Pupils across the country, ran by schools alongside the Youth Sports Trust.
Chasetown Specialist Sports College has hosted this week a wide range of events and the week has been incredibly successful and inspiring for pupils. We have provided activities including Olympic sports such as fencing, archery and table tennis.
Our gifted and talented PE students have experienced extreme golf which has been hosted by a golf professional and involved students tackling a golf course set up on our school fields.
All of Year 9 students have experienced an exhilarating roller disco which has been proven to improve cardiovascular fitness at the same time as being fun and enjoyable.
As an incentive for Year Ten students we have offered a day at Stafford MOD Army Base. During the day students have sampled a wide range of fun activities including an inflatable assault course, paintballing, climbing and a series of team building tasks. These activities build confidence and encourage teamwork and co-operation amongst all participants. Along the military theme we also had a series of motivational sessions led by the RAF in school which proved extremely popular amongst boys and girls of all ages.
We were also lucky enough to have Chinese visitors in school who led Chinese themed dance and art activities which our Year 8 students excelled in. The students were coached during the morning and they then had the task of teaching a group of Primary pupils from neighboring schools Ridgeway and Highfields. Finally the younger students in school had the opportunity to participate in an ‘alternative’ mini Olympics consisting of events such as sack races, egg and spoon relays and blind-folded assault courses.
As the week has progressed students have expressed their interest in the various activities and the College has been alive with stories from the events taking place. Students have been a credit to themselves and to Chasetown Specialist Sports College.
