OFSTED SUCCESS at CHASETOWN!

The whole school community at Chasetown Specialist Sports College is celebrating its well-deserved success in the recent Ofsted Inspection.

Inspectors visited the school on 11th and 12th November and praised the school’s remarkable pace of improvement over the last 12 months. The Inspectors graded the College ‘GOOD’ for its overall effectiveness and ‘OUTSTANDING’ for its capacity for sustained improvement. The effectiveness of leadership and management in embedding ambition and driving improvement was also graded as ‘OUTSTANDING’ .

The 2009 examination results were said to provide ‘ a visible marker of the transformation ’ at the school: 92% students gained 5A*-C grades and 63% gained 5A*-C grades including English and Maths. Ofsted inspectors agreed that ‘ The school’s track record of improvement is exceptional . Self-evaluation is searching and benchmarked against the highest expectations, leading to excellent plans which are already bearing fruit’ .

Teaching and learning were observed to be ‘Good’ , with ‘much that is outstanding’ , and the curriculum was judged to be a ‘well organised and effective framework for learning’ .

Ofsted inspectors also found that: ‘ Behaviour around the school is good and in lessons is good, and the school is calm and well ordered . The students report that they feel safe and are confident that any concerns will be dealt with effectively.’ The report also highlights the fact that ‘ care, guidance and support are very effective’ and that a very large majority of parents are entirely happy with the school.

The Headteacher, Bernice Astling, appointed in September 2008, said:

We are delighted to receive such a positive report from Ofsted. As a result of the hard work of students, staff and governors, this school now stands as one of the most successful in the county. I am so pleased that the improvements we have made have been recognised by Inspectors. We will strive to improve further in order to gain ‘outstanding’ in all areas at our next inspection.’

OFSTED visited the college in November 2009. A full report is available at OFSTED. Search for 124469 to take you to Chasetown's inspection report.
